IMAX® AUDIO SYSTEM
Sound is just as important as the images in an IMAX® theatre. IMAX’s powerful audio system delivers laser-aligned digital sound that envelopes each audience member.
- IMAX’s Proportional Point Source™ loudspeaker technology enables listeners to pinpoint the specific location of a sound.
- Each IMAX theatre is acoustically treated to present accurate and realistic sound with the largest dynamic range. This enables the sound to be clear enough to hear a pin drop and accurate enough to know exactly where it dropped.
- Each film’s soundtrack is specially mastered for IMAX’s unique sound system.
IMAX® THEATRE GEOMETRY
IMAX’s customized theatre geometry maximizes your field of view, putting you IN the movie. Integral parts of the design include the shape and precise positioning of the IMAX screen.
IMAX SCREENS
IMAX screens are designed and positioned to maximize each audience member’s field of view, putting you in the movie. In most IMAX® theatres, these screens span from wall-to-wall and floor to ceiling, and every IMAX screen is perforated with thousands of tiny holes to allow sound to pass through. IMAX® 3D screens are coated with a proprietary high-gain silver paint to maximize light polarization and brightness.
IMAX DMR®
IMAX DMR® is the Company’s groundbreaking digital re-mastering technology that allows virtually any conventional motion picture to be digitally transformed into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience®. IMAX® 3D
IMAX 3D delivers the most immersive 3D movie experience ever created, enabling images to leap off the screen and into the laps of the audience, further enhancing the feeling of being IN the movie.
2D TO 3D CONVERSION
IMAX’s 3D conversion technology enables live-action movies that were originally shot in 2D to be converted into IMAX® 3D. The technology has been applied to IMAX Hollywood features such as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, as well as inspiring IMAX 3D documentaries.
